CONTEST | Logo Creation

The student committee’s logo was selected through a vote among students, and our grand winner of the contest is Malek Amiri!

Winner’s Biography:

Malek Amiri, recipient of a National Excellence Scholarship, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Experimental Sciences as well as a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree with a thesis in Nursing Sciences. His Master’s project involved two distinct phases: in a preparatory phase, he translated and culturally adapted the Death and Dying Distress Scale (DADDS) for the Franco-Québécois population, and in a main phase, he explored the links between oncology nurse accompaniment interventions and death anxiety among cancer patients.

After completing his Master’s at Université Laval, he began his second year in the doctoral program in Nursing Sciences to further his research interest in death anxiety experienced by this population. His thesis topic is the multidimensional conceptualization and empirical validation of death anxiety among cancer patients. His thesis supervisor is Mr. Jean-François Desbiens, RN, Ph.D., Associate Professor at the Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Université Laval.

Logo Description:

The acronym “CE-RQSPAL” serves as a memorable mnemonic device representing “Comité étudiant du RQSPAL” in a shorter form. In this acronym, the letter É (representing “Étudiant·e”) is depicted by three stacked rectangles, providing a modern and unique touch to the logo. Notably, the second rectangle replaces the hyphen that separates the acronyms “CE” and “RQSPAL”. On the left side of the logo, Malek incorporated an image of a hummingbird (shaped like the letter C for “Comité”), also known as a “colibri” or “little equatorial star,” symbolizing the constant pursuit to reintroduce pleasure, happiness, and joy of life among palliative care patients.

The heart-shaped icon appearing on this bird represents Love… Undoubtedly, this sublime affect among all is, in palliative care, the essence of human connection. Palliative care involves total engagement, including emotional commitment from caregivers of various professional categories. Such commitment can manifest through compassion, touch, presence, speech, attention, smile, gaze, and whisper. These different expressions of affection can collectively be encompassed under the term Love.
